What’s new

The welcome note catches up with the new name.

• The welcome note on a new install shows the Cirrus banner.

Umber is now Cirrus: same notes, new name. Also tags, an archive, and a calmer Browse.

• Umber is now Cirrus, at trycirrus.app. Your notes, settings, and license come with it.
• Tag a note by typing #tag anywhere in it. Tags complete as you type, show on Browse rows, and can be searched.
• Archive notes you are done with from Browse. They leave your list without being deleted, and Browse leads into them.
• Browse groups notes into Pinned and by date, shows a preview line for each, and moves row actions into a footer bar. Hovering a row points at it without selecting it.
• Fold the section under a heading.
• Paste Mode captures copied images too, and keeps the text when a copy holds both.
• The notch pill lines up with the hardware notch to the pixel and behaves across Spaces.

Tidier notes, steadier toasts, and a panel that stays where you put it.

• A resized panel stays where you left it, narrows to 420 pt, and stops at the editor's line width, where extra width only added margin. Full Width is still unbounded.
• Command-click the edge pill, or the notch, to start a new note.
• Asking for a new note while the open one is empty brings that one forward instead of making another. A note that still holds only your template counts as empty, and quitting discards an empty note.
• Renaming a note points its [[links]] at the new title.
• Copying gives the Markdown as plain text, and Select All highlights the whole note.
• Toasts are a compact pill you can click away. They sit above the footer and over cards, stay above floating windows and the notch, and no longer stick on screen.
• The caret starts at the end of the note on launch.

A first launch above the clouds, a faster palette, and a panel that moves like part of your Mac.

• The first launch rolls clouds over your screen, sets up your shortcut, iCloud, login, and the edge pill, then parts the clouds onto your notes and shows you how to hide and bring them back. Replay it from General settings.
• New installs show and hide notes with ⌃⌘N. If you already use Umber, your shortcut stays as it is.
• The panel opens on a spring, drops out of the notch, grows out of the edge pill, and casts a proper shadow.
• Settings are rebuilt in the style of System Settings, with a choice of accent colours.
• ⌘P turns what you typed into a new note with Return, renames and pins with ⇧⌘R and ⇧⌘P, and opens on the note you had before. ⌘K matches group names and keywords too.
• Recently Deleted shows when each note goes for good, and a new action deletes the checked tasks in a note.
• ⌘G and ⇧⌘G find the next and previous match.
• Headings 4 to 6 with ⌘4 to ⌘6. ⌃⌘↑ and ⌃⌘↓ move any block. Tab indents code, lists start from + and 1), and Backspace at the start of a heading or quote unwraps it.
• Typing [[ closes the link for you and offers to create a note that does not exist yet. ⌘L inserts a link when nothing is selected, and typing a Markdown character around a selection applies it.
• Copy or save an attached image from its toolbar.
• The menu bar shows when Paste Mode is on, and adds Capture Clipboard and Browse.
• VoiceOver reads the palette, the footer, and the edge pill.
• Many fixes for sync conflicts, keyboard layouts, display changes, and editing edge cases.

Introducing Umber: notes that float above everything on your Mac. Press ⌥⌘N in any app, write it down, and press Escape to get back to work.

• Notes sync between your Macs through your own iCloud. No account, and no server in between.
• Keep a small pill on any edge of the screen, or let the notch be the pill. Hover to peek at your notes, click to write.
• Markdown without the clutter: headings, checklists, five highlight colours, images, syntax-coloured code, and tables you edit in place.
• Link notes with [[Note Title]]. Typing [[ suggests titles, and clicking a link opens that note, or creates it if it does not exist yet.
• ⌘K runs every action, ⌘P finds any note and shows the matching line, and ⌃1 to ⌃9 open your pinned notes.
• Capture the clipboard in a keystroke, turn on Paste Mode and gather everything you copy into one note, or select text in any app and choose Services > New Umber Note or Append to Umber.
• Shortcuts, Siri, and umber:// links create, open, read, and add to notes. Notes appear in Spotlight.
• Light and dark, following the system or your choice in General settings.
• The new-note template can use {{date}}, {{time}}, and {{datetime}}.
• Export every note as Markdown files whenever you like, and Umber keeps a daily backup of your notes for the last seven days.
• Free for three notes, and the welcome note does not count until you edit it. Umber Pro unlocks unlimited notes with a one-time purchase: the thanks page activates it in one click, and the key reaches your other Macs through iCloud Keychain.

Coming from a beta? Your notes are still in the folder you chose. Import them from Settings, Sync & Data.
